VinFast Auto, headquartered in Hai Phong, Vietnam, was founded in 2017 by Pham Nhat Vuong, Vietnam's wealthiest businessman, as the automotive arm of his conglomerate Vingroup. The company sells a full range of electric vehicles from the affordable VF 3 mini e-SUV up to the full-size VF 9, and operates across Vietnam and export markets including Indonesia, the Philippines, India, the Middle East, Europe, and North America. VinFast went public on Nasdaq in August 2023 via a SPAC merger with Black Spade Capital that valued it at roughly $23 billion. The company remains heavily dependent on financial support from Vingroup and Vuong, who has pledged multi-billion-dollar backing to push the loss-making automaker toward cash-flow breakeven.
