Zoomo's public trajectory since 2022 points down and to the right in the wrong sense: headcount has fallen from the several hundreds to roughly 190, two layoff rounds in 2023 cut nearly a quarter of the workforce, and the last disclosed external primary capital was the early-2022 Series B extension — the 2023 $24M round came from existing insiders, the classic bridge profile of a company whose growth story no new institutional lead would price. The intervening silence is itself evidence: no disclosed new round, no profitability announcement, no major expansion in three years, in a venture market that funds winners loudly. The business model explains the struggle — subscription e-bike fleets combine the worst traits of hardware (capex, depreciation, theft, battery degradation) with the worst traits of services (labor-intensive workshops in high-wage cities) while serving customers with brutal economics of their own: gig couriers churn constantly, and delivery platforms squeeze every supplier as their own margins compress. Customer concentration compounds it — the collapse of quick-commerce clients (Australia's MilkRun among them) directly triggered earlier cuts, and any platform that decides to buy rather than lease bikes, or to subsidize couriers' own vehicles, hollows out demand overnight. Competitively, Zoomo is squeezed between cheap consumer e-bikes that cost a fraction of a subscription and improving direct-from-China commercial hardware that fleets can self-manage, while its cargo-bike pivot rides partnerships (Vok, EAV) rather than owned product. The plausible endgame is not collapse but stall: a modestly-sized fleet-services business, sub-scale in every market it operates, whose ~$100M of invested venture capital cannot be returned by a niche logistics-leasing multiple — an eventual trade sale to a fleet lessor or delivery platform at a fraction of peak expectations.
