Jack Dorsey
Co-founded Twitter in 2006 and founded Square in 2009, inspired by frustration over a lost credit card sale — turning a smartphone into a payment terminal. Studied at Missouri University of Science and Technology and later NYU without graduating. Served as CEO of both Twitter and Square simultaneously from 2015 to 2021, a rare dual-CEO arrangement. Prior software work included building dispatch software for taxis and an early stint at Odeo, the podcasting startup that seeded Twitter. Stepped down as Twitter CEO in late 2021 to focus entirely on Block, where he has deepened the company's Bitcoin strategy and renamed Square to Block to reflect its broader scope beyond payments. Known for a sparse, almost monastic leadership style — he famously once ate only one meal a day and took silent retreats — and a public conviction that Bitcoin is the internet's native currency.
