Guillaume Pousaz
A French-born, Swiss-raised entrepreneur with a background in mathematics and computer science, Pousaz began building payments infrastructure in his London apartment in 2006. Prior to founding Checkout.com (originally Opus Payments), he founded a previous payments company that was acquired by Optimal Payments (parent company of Neteller), where he later served as a product director. Pousaz bootstrapped Checkout.com for over a decade, making it profitable before accepting any outside capital — raising a $230M Series A in 2019 at a $2B valuation, one of the largest first rounds in fintech history. He is notably media-averse and has given very few interviews, maintaining an intensely operational, low-public-profile leadership posture.
