ORCA Computing

Murray holds a PhD in quantum atom-optics and has more than 15 years of experience managing scientific teams in quantum, AR/VR, and industrial photonics. Before co-founding ORCA Computing in 2019, he worked with Sir Peter Knight for the UK government in establishing the £270 million UK National Quantum Technologies Programme and helped develop the €1 billion EU Quantum Flagship. ORCA builds photonic quantum computers using telecom-compatible optical components and memory-based architectures that operate without cryogenic cooling, making systems deployable in standard data center environments.

Walmsley is a distinguished physicist and former Provost of Imperial College London, and previously held the Hooke Chair of Experimental Physics at Oxford University, where ORCA's core technology was developed. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society and an internationally recognized authority on quantum optics and ultrafast photonics. He co-founded ORCA Computing in 2019 to commercialize the optical quantum memory and photonic qubit technologies developed in his Oxford research group, and contributes as a scientific advisory board member.

Nunn is a physicist whose research at Oxford University focused on quantum memories for photons — devices capable of storing and retrieving single photons on demand — a critical enabling technology for photonic quantum computing. He co-founded ORCA Computing in 2019 to commercialize this work. As CSO he leads the scientific development of ORCA's time-bin encoded photonic approach, which uses optical fiber memories and commercially available telecom hardware to build room-temperature quantum processing units.
