Leek holds a PhD from the University of Cambridge and conducted postdoctoral research in circuit quantum electrodynamics (QED) at ETH Zurich. He has led his own research group at the University of Oxford's Department of Physics since 2012, where he invented OQC's core IP — the Coaxmon — a superconducting qubit designed from first principles for commercial scalability, freeing it from the constraints of 2D chip architectures. He founded Oxford Quantum Circuits in 2017 and continues to split his time between OQC and Oxford. The company delivered Europe's first Quantum Computing-as-a-Service platform.
