DJI

DJI (Da-Jiang Innovations / SZ DJI Technology Co., Ltd.) is the world's largest manufacturer of consumer and commercial drones, with an estimated 70%+ global market share across Phantom, Mavic, Air, Mini, Inspire, Matrice, and Agras product lines. Founded by Frank Wang (Wang Tao) while he was a student at Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, the company is headquartered in Shenzhen's Nanshan district in a purpose-built Sky City campus. DJI operates under significant US regulatory pressure. It was placed on the Commerce Department's Entity List in 2020 over alleged surveillance links, and in December 2025 the FCC added DJI to its Covered List, effectively blocking new equipment authorizations for its drones in the US. DJI filed a petition in the US Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit in February 2026 challenging the FCC action. Despite these headwinds, DJI reported roughly USD 3.5B in 2024 revenue and continues to dominate commercial drone sales globally, while expanding into adjacent categories including cinema cameras (Ronin/Osmo), action cameras, LiDAR (Livox), agricultural spraying drones, and e-mobility.
DJI is the default benchmark for consumer and commercial aerial robotics; its technology roadmap, pricing, and US regulatory status directly shape the viability of Western drone startups and the pace of Blue UAS / Replicator procurement.
