Ahti Heinla
A software engineer from Estonia, studied at the University of Tartu before becoming a core developer and co-founder of Skype, where he architected the peer-to-peer networking layer that powered the service. That same distributed-systems thinking later informed the creation of Starship Technologies alongside fellow Skype alumnus Janus Friis. Prior to Starship, he co-founded Roadcloud, a traffic data platform using crowd-sourced mobile sensors, and helped build several other Estonian tech companies. Known for a deeply technical, hands-on engineering style — he actively writes code and often personally tests robots in real-world conditions, reflecting a builder-first leadership posture uncommon at the CEO/CTO level of a venture-backed company.
