Arlo Technologies began in 2014 as a smart-camera division of Netgear and was spun out as an independent public company via an August 2018 IPO on the New York Stock Exchange. Headquartered in San Jose, California, Arlo designs wire-free, battery-powered Wi-Fi security cameras, floodlight cameras, and video doorbells aimed at consumers and small businesses. The company has increasingly pivoted from hardware margins toward recurring revenue through its Arlo Secure subscription, which bundles cloud video storage, AI-powered person/vehicle/package detection, and emergency-response features; it has also introduced 24/7 professional monitoring options. Arlo Secure 6, its latest subscription tier, adds new AI capabilities to that platform. The strategy is showing up in results: in a record Q1 2026, Arlo posted $150.4 million revenue (up 26%), $357 million in annual recurring revenue (up 29%), 6.0 million paid subscribers, and $14.9 million GAAP net income.
Arlo is one of the few pure-play, publicly-traded consumer camera companies and a bellwether for the industry's shift from one-time hardware sales to recurring security subscriptions.
