Founded in Toronto in 2007 by Stuart Lombard, ecobee was one of the earliest Wi-Fi smart thermostat makers, pioneering remote room sensors that balance temperature based on where people actually are. Its product line has expanded to cameras, smart doorbells, and the SmartThermostat platform, with HomeKit, Alexa, and Matter support. Since November 2021, ecobee has operated as a subsidiary of Generac Holdings, which acquired it for up to $770 million; it continues under the ecobee brand from Toronto as Generac's smart-home and grid-services arm.
