BlueBird is AST SpaceMobile's line of low-Earth-orbit satellites carrying very large phased-array antennas that act as cell towers in space. They connect directly to standard, unmodified 4G and 5G smartphones, delivering voice, text, and broadband data without special hardware or apps. The first five commercial BlueBirds launched in 2024, with larger Block 2 satellites following. The constellation is designed to fill coverage gaps for partner carriers across rural, maritime, and disaster zones worldwide.
