NASA's lunar lander missions via Intuitive Machines and Astrobotic are foundational steps toward establishing a permanent moon base.

NASA awards ~$600M in CLPS contracts to Astrobotic ($297.9M for two Peregrine missions), Intuitive Machines ($148.3M for Nova-C), and Firefly Aerospace ($144.2M for Blue Ghost) to support lunar landing cadence.

NASA awards nearly $600M in contracts to three lunar lander operators for four missions supporting lunar base development.

Astrobotic, Firefly Aerospace, and Intuitive Machines win NASA contracts for lunar cargo delivery missions.
Intuitive Machines' lunar lander prepares to deliver the largest commercial payload to the Moon.
Nova-C is Intuitive Machines' robotic lunar lander, roughly the size of a phone booth, designed to carry NASA and commercial payloads to the Moon's surface under the CLPS program. Powered by a methane-oxygen engine, its IM-1 mission landed the Odysseus spacecraft near the lunar south pole in February 2024, the first commercial soft landing on the Moon. Subsequent missions extend the platform to deliver science instruments, rovers, and technology demonstrations supporting NASA's Artemis return-to-the-Moon effort.
Intuitive Machines is building a lunar data-relay and navigation network to provide communications and position services for spacecraft operating near and on the Moon. Awarded under NASA's Near Space Network Services contract, the system uses relay satellites to connect landers, rovers, and orbiters back to Earth, addressing the growing need for reliable cislunar infrastructure as lunar traffic increases. It complements the company's lander business by supplying the connectivity layer for sustained lunar operations.
