Founded in 2019 by Awais Ahmed and Kshitij Khandelwal, Pixxel is a space-data company and spacecraft manufacturer with operations in Bengaluru, India and Los Angeles. Its flagship Firefly constellation delivers hyperspectral imagery at native 5-meter resolution across 250+ spectral bands with a 40-km swath and daily global revisit. The first three Firefly satellites launched on SpaceX's Transporter-12 mission in January 2025, with three more on a Falcon 9 mission in August 2025, completing the first phase of the commercial constellation. Backers include Google, Radical Ventures, Lightspeed, and Glade Brook Capital.
Hyperspectral imaging detects chemical and material signatures invisible to conventional satellites, opening a new layer of Earth-observation data for resource, climate, and defense intelligence — Pixxel won a U.S. National Reconnaissance Office contract in 2026.
