Spun out of MIT and Boston University in 2017, Asimov was founded by Alec Nielsen (CEO), MIT professor Christopher Voigt, BU professor Douglas Densmore, and Raja Srinivas to bring computer-aided design to genetic engineering. The company combines its Kernel CAD platform for designing complex genetic systems with proprietary engineered mammalian cell lines and 'Edge' systems (CHO, LV, AAV, RNA) used to develop and manufacture biologics, cell and gene therapies, and RNA therapeutics. Asimov raised a $175M Series B in January 2023 led by CPP Investments, bringing total funding to roughly $209M, and partners with pharma, biotech, and CDMO customers.
