Cradle was founded in 2021 by Stef van Grieken (CEO), Jelle Prins, Elise de Reus, Eli Bixby, and Harmen van Rossum, and operates from Amsterdam and Zurich. Its software combines generative machine-learning models with experimental data to design and optimize proteins used in medicines, food ingredients, detergents, and bioplastics, replacing slow trial-and-error protein engineering. In November 2024 Cradle raised a $73 million Series B led by IVP, with continued backing from Index Ventures and Kindred Capital, bringing total funding to more than $100 million.
It packages generative protein design as accessible SaaS, aiming to put AI-driven protein engineering into the hands of mainstream R&D labs.
