DNA Script was founded in 2014 in Paris by Thomas Ybert, Sylvain Gariel, and Xavier Godron to commercialize enzymatic DNA synthesis (EDS) as an alternative to traditional phosphoramidite chemistry. Its flagship SYNTAX system is positioned as the first benchtop enzymatic DNA printer, letting researchers synthesize oligonucleotides on demand in their own labs rather than ordering and waiting for them. The aqueous, enzyme-based process aims to be faster and more environmentally friendly than chemical synthesis. The company has raised roughly $315 million since founding, including a $200 million Series C.
By putting enzymatic DNA synthesis on a benchtop instrument, DNA Script aims to make on-demand oligo production a standard piece of lab equipment, collapsing the order-and-wait supply chain.
