Evonetix

Evonetix, based in Cambridge, England, applies semiconductor manufacturing to DNA synthesis through a proprietary silicon chip that controls reactions at thousands of independent, individually thermally controlled sites on the chip surface. This thermal-control approach lets the company synthesize thousands of distinct sequences in parallel and assemble them into longer, accurate genes. The company was co-founded by chief technology officer Matthew Hayes, and in 2023 closed a $24 million financing led by Foresite Capital to advance its desktop gene-writing platform. It has begun an early-access program delivering chip-synthesized DNA, including its first deliveries to the University of Cambridge. In early 2024 the company restructured and cut headcount after over-extending following its Series B, appointing former Cambridge Consultants executive Andrew Diston as CEO to lead a leaner rebuild; it has made no major public announcements since, and its website was offline as of mid-2026, though UK corporate filings show the entity remained active into 2026.
