Levels' two most famous founders are now otherwise employed, which tells you something about where the company's center of gravity went: Casey Means departed years ago and is pursuing the Surgeon General role, while CEO Sam Corcos joined DOGE in February 2025 and became the Treasury Department's chief information officer — his own LinkedIn now lists him as a Levels board member, not chief executive. A startup at Levels' stage rarely thrives while its operator-founder runs IRS modernization. The political association cuts the other way too: tethering a consumer brand to a polarizing administration alienates half the addressable market, and the scientific establishment has spent the confirmation process publicly litigating the weak evidence base for CGM use in non-diabetics — which is Levels' entire product thesis. The competitive squeeze is worse than in 2022: Dexcom now sells Stelo direct to consumers with AI coaching built in and is acquiring Nutrisense's dietitian service, meaning Levels' sensor supplier is becoming a vertically integrated competitor that owns the hardware margin, the data, and the coaching layer. Levels' last disclosed raise was a modest $10M extension in August 2024 — partly crowdfunded, with no new priced mark — and nothing public since suggests breakout growth. The category it created is commoditizing from below (free sensor apps), medicalizing from above (GLP-1s deliver the metabolic outcomes users actually want, pharmacologically), and its differentiation increasingly rests on brand and content rather than anything proprietary. That is an audience business at a venture valuation.
