The ANNE system — soft, wireless chest and limb sensors developed out of Northwestern's flexible-electronics labs — carries a stack of FDA 510(k) clearances, with the seventh (March 2025) covering alarms, alerts, and a central monitoring station, the specific capabilities needed to actually replace tethered bedside monitors rather than merely supplement them. April 2026 delivered the flagship: FDA clearance of ANNE Maternal, described as the first fully wireless, comprehensive maternal-fetal monitoring platform, attacking a corner of obstetrics where the standard of care — wired cardiotocography belts — has barely changed in half a century and where US maternal-health outcomes make the clinical need politically visible. The capital and channel structure fits the mission: a $30M Series C led by the Steele Foundation for Hope (later extended to $39M, roughly $72M raised in total) pairs mission-aligned capital with Dräger — the German acute-care monitoring incumbent that led the Series A — as strategic investor and distribution partner, already yielding a long-term deployment with Denmark's capital region announced in late 2024. Continuous, wireless, low-acuity monitoring is where hospital economics are heading as systems push patients out of ICUs and into wards and homes; Sibel owns one of the few cleared platforms purpose-built for that migration, with a maternal-fetal franchise no consumer wearable can touch.

Sibel is a $72M-funded company selling into the most entrenched procurement environment in healthcare, against incumbents — Philips, GE HealthCare, Masimo, Baxter — that own the nurse-station infrastructure, the EMR integrations, the group-purchasing contracts, and the service organizations hospital CIOs actually buy. Wireless patch monitoring is not a new idea those incumbents missed; it is a feature they can bundle, and the graveyard of vital-signs-patch ventures (Current Health absorbed and later unwound by Best Buy, VitalConnect grinding for years) shows how slowly hospital monitoring budgets move toward startups regardless of clearance count. Sibel's Dräger relationship, its greatest asset, is also its cap: a strategic investor that is itself a monitoring vendor shapes where Sibel can sell, which geographies it reaches, and ultimately who can acquire it, while leaving the company exposed if Dräger's own priorities shift. ANNE Maternal's clinical romance meets a hard commercial fact — labor-and-delivery units are cost centers with thin capital budgets, and reimbursement for continuous maternal monitoring outside the hospital barely exists. The adhesive-sensor model carries consumable economics that hospitals resist and razor-thin margins if they don't, and $39M of Series C — from a philanthropic lead rather than a growth-equity firm, a financing signal in itself — is modest fuel for a company that must simultaneously run regulatory programs, hospital sales cycles measured in years, and international expansion.
