Lockheed Martin's MORFIUS X-Rotor system uses high-power microwaves to disable drone electronics mid-air, and it just took out more than 50 drones in a single flight. Instead of firing missiles or bullets one target at a time, the system fries circuits like flipping a switch, which means it can handle swarms at a scale kinetic intercepts cannot match. The shift matters because recent conflicts have shown that cheap, mass-produced drones can overwhelm traditional defenses, so a system that scales electronically rather than through ammunition changes the counter-drone economics for militaries facing swarm threats.
