Rocket Lab raises Iridium bid by $1B; NVIDIA buys Hugging Face for $13B
The infrastructure layer is rewriting the rules: from space networks to AI platforms, the companies that control the pipes are making expensive bets that vertical integration is now the only defensible moat.
Rocket Lab Raises Iridium Bid 30%, Adding $1 Billion to Secure Space Network
Rocket Lab just increased its offer for Iridium by 30 percent—roughly a billion dollars more—to lock down a constellation of 66 satellites that provide global communications coverage. The company already builds rockets and satellites, but owning Iridium would give it end-to-end control over space infrastructure, from launch to orbit to the network itself. The move signals that vertical integration has become the price of entry in the space economy. Competitors like AST SpaceMobile, which is building space-based cellular service, may have been eyeing the same asset. Rocket Lab is betting that whoever owns the infrastructure wins the market, and it's willing to pay a premium to make sure that's not someone else.
