Coinbase wins Abu Dhabi tokenization license; Rivian begins R2 deliveries
The frontier today splits between infrastructure that's newly operational and infrastructure still being built.
Regulatory approvals, first deliveries, and supply-chain bets mark the gap between ambition and scale.
Coinbase wins Abu Dhabi license for real-world asset tokenization
Coinbase secured regulatory approval from Abu Dhabi's financial regulator to help institutions tokenize real-world assets such as real estate, stocks, and commodities. This isn't retail crypto trading; it's infrastructure for converting traditional assets into digital tokens that can move on a blockchain around the clock without banks as intermediaries. Abu Dhabi sees a two-trillion-dollar opportunity in tokenization and wants those assets to remain within its jurisdiction, which means Coinbase now holds a beachhead in the Gulf's push to become a digital-asset hub. The approval positions Coinbase as the first major Western crypto platform to operate tokenization services in the region, testing whether regulatory moats can be built faster than geopolitical friction slows them down.
