Mustafa Al-Bassam is an Iraqi-British computer scientist who, as a teenager in 2011, was a core member of the hacking group LulzSec under the alias 'tflow'. He went on to earn a PhD in computer science at University College London with a thesis on securely scaling blockchain base layers, and co-founded Chainspace, a smart-contract platform acquired by Facebook in 2019. He was named to the Forbes 30 Under 30 list for his work exposing government surveillance. He co-founded Celestia Labs to build the first modular blockchain, separating data availability and consensus from execution.
Ismail Khoffi is a software engineer who co-founded Celestia Labs and leads its engineering as CTO. He was previously a senior engineer at Tendermint and the Interchain Foundation, working on core Cosmos-ecosystem infrastructure, experience he brought to building Celestia's modular data-availability network.
John Adler is a blockchain-scaling researcher who co-founded Celestia Labs, where he serves as Chief Research Officer. He is credited as the creator of Optimistic Rollups and was previously a Scalability Fellow at ConsenSys, as well as a co-founder and former CTO of Fuel. His research on separating data availability from execution underpins the modular-blockchain design behind Celestia.
Nick White studied electrical engineering at Stanford University and worked in the blockchain industry before Celestia, including co-founding the earlier Harmony protocol. He co-founded Celestia Labs and serves as COO, helping lead operations and ecosystem growth for the modular data-availability network.
Celestia is a modular blockchain that provides consensus and data availability as a service, letting other chains handle their own execution. Rollups and app-chains publish their transaction data to Celestia, which uses erasure coding and data-availability sampling so resource-light nodes can probabilistically verify that all data was made available without downloading the full block. This drives down the cost of blockspace and lets developers deploy sovereign rollups quickly using frameworks like Rollkit. By unbundling data availability from execution, Celestia underpins the broader modular-blockchain ecosystem.
