Founded in 2014 by Michael Gronager and Jonathan Levin, Chainalysis is a leading blockchain-data company whose software helps government agencies, exchanges, banks and insurers detect illicit activity, investigate crimes and meet anti-money-laundering obligations. Its government-investigations work has supported high-profile law-enforcement cases tracing stolen and laundered crypto. In May 2022 Chainalysis raised a $170 million Series F led by GIC at an $8.6 billion valuation, with backers including Accel, Blackstone, Dragoneer, BNY Mellon and Emergence Capital; secondary-market marks have since reset its valuation well below that peak. It acquired web3-security startup Hexagate (reported at about $60 million) to add real-time threat detection.
