Anatoly Yakovenko
Anatoly Yakovenko is a software engineer who immigrated to the United States from Ukraine as a child and earned a B.S. in computer science from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. He spent more than a decade at Qualcomm working on wireless and distributed systems, and later worked on distributed systems at Mesosphere and Dropbox. In 2017 he authored the whitepaper describing Proof of History, a cryptographic clock that timestamps transactions to speed up blockchain consensus. He co-founded Solana Labs in 2018 to build a high-throughput Layer 1 around that idea, combining Proof of History with proof-of-stake and the Sealevel parallel-execution runtime.
