On a dry-weight basis it is about 80% protein, 6% fat, 10% dietary fiber and 4% minerals, with all nine essential amino acids plus iron and vitamin B12. Solar Foods sells it as an ingredient for protein drinks, shakes, snacks and other health and performance nutrition products.
Factory 01 in Vantaa, Finland, started production in spring 2024 and can make up to 160 tonnes of Solein a year. Its core is a 20,000-litre bioreactor fed with hydrogen from an on-site electrolyzer and carbon dioxide, part of it captured on site by direct air capture.
Factory 02 is a planned plant in Selkäharju, Lappeenranta, Finland, designed to scale Solein output to 6,400 tonnes a year. Business Finland granted €77.8 million for its construction in June 2026, conditional on a final investment decision the company aims to make during 2026.
