Vow was founded in 2019 in Sydney by George Peppou and Tim Noakesmith, growing cultured meat from animal cells with a focus on novel, exotic products rather than copies of conventional cuts. Its consumer brand, Forged, centers on cultured Japanese-quail cells, including a cultured quail parfait and a foie-gras-style product aimed at high-end dining. Singapore became the first government to approve Vow's product for commercial sale in April 2024, and on 7 April 2025 Vow's cultured quail became the first cultivated-meat product approved for sale in Australia and New Zealand by FSANZ. The company has rolled out Forged dishes in restaurants in Sydney and Melbourne and operates large-scale bioreactors at its Sydney facility. Vow raised a 49.2 million dollar Series A in 2022 co-led by Blackbird and Prosperity7 Ventures, the largest cultivated-meat round in Australia at the time.
Vow is the first company approved to sell cultivated meat in Australia and New Zealand and one of the few pursuing novel, premium products like cultured quail rather than commodity meat, making it a distinctive test of the category's high-end strategy.
