Emergence was founded in 2003 by Gordon Ritter, Jason Green and Brian Jacobs on the thesis that enterprise software would move to the cloud, and its first major investment was Salesforce. The firm makes only a handful of new B2B investments each year and has backed companies collectively worth over $450 billion, including Veeva, Zoom, Box, Doximity and Bill.com; it closed a $1 billion seventh fund in 2025.
