Dispelix

Holds an M.Sc. in analytical chemistry from the University of Oulu. Before co-founding Dispelix, worked at VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland where his research focused on the roll-to-roll manufacturing of flexible electronics, diagnostics, and optics. Studied waveguide components at VTT with co-founder Juuso Olkkonen, where in 2011, their team discovered how to eliminate the disruptive rainbow effect in smart glasses by dampening the diffraction of light passing through nanostructure. Founded Dispelix in 2015 alongside research scientists Juuso Olkkonen and Jyrki Saarinen as a spin-off company of VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland. Has more than fifteen years of experience in diffractive and XR optics and his work has resulted in multiple patents and patent applications.

Earned his Ph.D. in physics from the University of Oulu in 2010, after serving as a visiting researcher at the University of Arizona's Optical Sciences Center from 2002–2004. Studied waveguide components at VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland alongside co-founder Antti Sunnari, where in 2011 their team discovered how to eliminate the disruptive rainbow effect in smart glasses by dampening diffraction. Co-founded Dispelix in 2015 as a spin-off from VTT. Created Dispelix's proprietary waveguide design software and has been co-inventor in almost 40% of the company's patent families. Leads strategic R&D initiatives targeting novel waveguide design concepts and disruptive design capability.

Holds a D.Sc. (Tech.) from Helsinki University of Technology (now Aalto University) and an MBA, with guest research positions at institutions in Canada, Japan, China, and France during the 1990s. Co-founded Heptagon in 1998, serving as Senior VP and board member through 2013, building it into a world-leading micro-optics manufacturer with over 1,000 employees across Singapore, Switzerland, and Silicon Valley; the company achieved an exit valuation of up to $920 million. Became Head of the Institute of Photonics at the University of Eastern Finland in 2013, where he was recruited by Dispelix co-founders Sunnari and Olkkonen to join the founding team, bringing experience in commercializing inventions. Also serves as a professor of photonics and former president of the European Optical Society.
